The Thermodynamic Approach to Multifractal Analysis

چکیده

Most results in multifractal analysis are obtained using either a thermodynamic approach based on existence and uniqueness of equilibrium states or a saturation approach based on some version of the specification property. A general framework incorporating the most important multifractal spectra was introduced by Barreira and Saussol, who used the thermodynamic approach to establish the multifractal formalism in the uniformly hyperbolic setting, unifying many existing results. We extend this framework to apply to a broad class of nonuniformly hyperbolic systems, including examples with phase transitions, and obtain new results for a number of examples that have already been studied using the saturation approach. We compare the thermodynamic and saturation approaches and give a survey of many of the multifractal results in the literature.

Application of multifractal modeling for separation of sulfidic mineralized zones based on induced polarization and resistivity data in the Ghare-Tappeh Cu deposit, NW Iran

The aim of this study was to identify various sulfidic mineralized zones in the Ghare-Tappeh Cu deposit (NW Iran) based on geo-electrical data including induced polarization (IP) and resistivity (RS) using the concentration-volume (C-V) and number-size (N-S) fractal models. The fractal models were used to separate high and moderate sulfidic zones from low sulfidic zones and barren wall rocks. B...

Exact calculation of multifractal exponents of the critical wave function of Dirac fermions in a random magnetic field

The multifractal scaling exponents are calculated for the critical wave function of a two-dimensional Dirac fermion in the presence of a random magnetic field. It is shown that the problem of calculating the multifractal spectrum maps into the thermodynamics of a static particle in a random potential. The multifractal exponents are simply given in terms of thermodynamic functions, such as free ...

Thermodynamic Analysis of Light Olefins Production via Cracking of n-Hexane Using Gibbs Energy Minimization Approach and Analysis of Overall Reactions

Thermodynamic analysis of the cracking of hexane has been conducted by the Gibbs free energy minimization method and second law analysis of overall reactions. By-products have been divided into three groups of methane, alkynes and aromatics and their possible production paths have been discussed. Effect of operating conditions such as temperature and steam-to-hexane ratio on the cracking perfor...

Multifractal Analysis of Lyapunov Exponent for Continued Fraction and Manneville–Pomeau Transformations and Applications to Diophantine Approximation

We extend some of the theory of multifractal analysis for conformal expanding systems to two new cases: The non-uniformly hyperbolic example of the Manneville– Pomeau equation and the continued fraction transformation. A common point in the analysis is the use of thermodynamic formalism for transformations with infinitely many branches. We effect a complete multifractal analysis of the Lyapunov...

Multifractal Analysis for Lyapunov Exponents on Nonconformal Repellers

For nonconformal repellers satisfying a certain cone condition, we establish a version of multifractal analysis for the topological entropy of the level sets of the Lyapunov exponents. Due to the nonconformality, the Lyapunov exponents are averages of nonadditive sequences of potentials, and thus one cannot use Birkhoff’s ergodic theorem neither the classical thermodynamic formalism. We use ins...
